Make a Joyful Noise brings New Zealand, bagpipes, New Orleans and jazz together in a carnivalesque romantic comedy that celebrates family, love, music and the art of raising sheep.

Dr. Russell CampbellDr. Russell Campbell

Russell (AKA “Dr Film”) is Associate Professor of Film at Victoria University of Wellington. He is also a writer, script assessor, editor and filmmaker. As a documentary filmmaker his work includes Sedition: The Suppression of Dissent in World War II New Zealand (Media Peace Award, 2005); Rebels in Retrospect (1991); and Wildcat (co-directed, 1981). Russell was the inaugural Project Officer at the New Zealand Film Commission (1979-80) and has been a professional script consultant since 1980. He was the founder editor of the film journal The Velvet Light Trap in the United States, and edited the New Zealand journal Illusions from 1986 to 1990. He is the author of numerous articles on film and the books Marked Women: Prostitutes and Prostitution in the Cinema (University of Wisconsin Press, 2006; CHOICE Award for Outstanding Academic Title) and Cinema Strikes Back: Radical Filmmaking in the United States 1930-1942 (UMI Research Press, 1982). He is also the compiler/editor of Photographic Theory for the Motion Picture Cameraman and Practical Motion Picture Photography (both Zwemmer/Barnes, 1970). His latest documentary Sisters from Siberia will be released later in 2009, and he is planning a book of essays on New Zealand documentary.

 

Andrew HortonAndrew Horton

Andrew is an award-winning screenwriter and author of 21 books on film, screenwriting and culture. Based in the US, he is the Jeanne H Smith Professor of Film and Video Studies at the University of Oklahoma and the author of Writing the Character Centered Screenplay (U. of California Press, l994), The Films of Theo Angelopoulos (Princeton U Press, 2nd edition, 1999), and Laughing Out Loud: Writing the Comedy Centered Screenplay (U. of California Press, 2000). His films include Brad Pitt's first feature film, The Dark Side of the Sun and the award winning Yugoslav film Something In Between directed by Srdjan Karanovic. He has given screenwriting workshops around the world including Norway, Germany, England, the Czech Republic, Greece, New Zealand, Switzerland and throughout the United States. Joe used to play bass, co-write songs and direct videos for Supergroove, now doing so again. Directing TV ads and music videos for Flying Fish and Fish'n'Clips. Been directing for 16 years. Did the 'one-shot' Goodshirt videos, the Playstation ad with the giant metal claw, and Liam Finn's 'Gather to the Chapel' video. Toured playing bass for Bic Runga in '07 - '08. Formed 'Cptn Bringdown' early '09. Currently working on a feature film project. Proud father of 1.
